I’m a YouTuber. I have three personal channels and I manage a few for various artists. Needless to say, I’m obsessed with video.

It should come as no surprise that someone with my obsession has over 8 applications installed on my phone dedicated to watching, creating, editing, and uploading video. My day consists of work, obviously, and nearly 4 hours devoted to finding inspiration, ideas and viral sensations on YouTube.

And I’m not the only one.

The world is hungry for mobile video. According to a study done by ZenithOptimedia, users watching online videos on a mobile device (tablets included) will rise 34.8% this year alone. That same study states that the average time watching video will also increase. With subscription services such as Hulu, YouTube Red, HBO, and Netflix all adding new content on a monthly basis, the time is said to increase by 19.8% in 2016.


Video is being used not only for personal use, but for marketing as well. At Gavin, we’re seeing a huge increase of demand for viral video marketing campaigns from our clients. But why? It’s simple: video drives conversions. A study by an online fashion retailers showed those using video on product pages saw a 134% boost in conversions.

This is just one of several conversion statistics indicating what video marketing can do for businesses. In the last six months we’ve seen this at Gavin in our own performance-focused campaigns. Mobile video continues to grow with it’s engaging content and reliable performance. We expect to see video to be incorporated into many of our clients’ budgets in 2016.

2015 has been dubbed “The Year of Mobile”. The emphasis on designing and developing for mobile will continue as our technology gets better and easier to carry on our person at any given time. I’m hopeful that 2016 is on its way to becoming “The Year of Mobile Video Marketing” and that we see even more brands taking advantage of the highly profitable and highly creative marketing tactic of video.
